How To Disable USB Autorun in Windows 7 ?

It is certainly more convenient to have Windows immediately pick-up the USB device once you plug it into the USB port. But, as you might realize, it comes with a heavy price. No matter how careful you are, it is quite possible that your USB device could pick up a virus or if you allow others to use your computer it is more probable that the USB device that they might be plugging into your computer could contain viruses and all sort of nasty things, who knows!

It is, obviously, better to be on the safer side than sorry. Instead of allowing Windows 7 (or Windows Vista for that matter) to automatically play the USB device once you plug it in, why not just disable Windows from auto playing the USB device? With that way you won’t run into accidental virus issues and if you are certain that the device is safe to browse you can then obviously get to the device manually using Windows Explorer.

It is pretty simple to turn off the AutoPlay feature on Windows 7 for any external media devices.

Start by typing “group policy” on the Windows Search Box. Windows 7 will narrow down to “Edit Group Policy” on the list. Click on “Edit Group Policy” item.

Once Windows launches “Local Group Policy Editor” window, on the left side of the window expand the nodes “Computer Configuration” and then “Administrative Templates” and then “Windows Components” and then choose “AutoPlay Policies”. On the right side of the window you should be able to see “Turn off AutoPlay” option.

Double-click on the “Turn off AutoPlay” option and Windows will present you with the “Turn off AutoPlay” dialogue. On that window click on the “Enabled” option to disable the auto play feature of Windows. Make sure to hit the OK button to dismiss the dialogue.
From now on Windows won’t try to automatically play the device when you plug-in a USB device or any other external media devices. Keep in mind that this tweak requires Administrative privileges and this applies to all the users of the computer including the Administrator.

5 Ways to schedule your facebook status updates

List of a few of the free methods you can use to schedule your Facebook updates :

LaterBro

With LaterBro you can schedule Facebook status updates, while simultaneously updating Twitter. The service is as bare bones as it gets, simply allowing you to schedule updates. The disadvantage to using LaterBro is that status updates are limited to 140 characters, even though Facebook status updates do allow you 420 characters per update. While you can’t add images to your updates, you can include links, and LaterBro has a native url shortener. Updates can be scheduled every fifteen minutes, and you can also schedule certain updates to be repeated on a daily, weekly, monthly or even yearly basis.

All scheduled updates are visible in your account, and you can delete them before hand individually or in bulk.

The status updates on Facebook will feature a link to LaterBro.

TweetDeck

TweetDeck allows you to schedule updates to its supported social networks, including Facebook. When updating your Facebook status on TweetDeck, click the clock icon next to the button marked Send.

You can then enter the exact time and date when the update will be sent.

The update on Facebook will feature a link to TweetDeck.

SocialTomorrow

With SocialTomorrow, after granting the site access to your Facebook account, with a free account, you can then schedule Facebook (or Twitter) updates, but the free accounts do have their limits. With SocialTomorrow you are limited to 10 free updates per month. In comparison to the other services listed here, SocialTomorrow does also suffer as far as it’s interface is concerned. The design of the site feels very outdated, and there is nothing slick about it. That said, if you need a simple way to schedule a limited number of Facebook updates per month, the service will do the trick.

Another drawback to using SocialTomorrow is that all updates are appended with the hashtag, #socialtomorrow, which, while understandable if not a bit annoying on Twitter, it’s of course entirely pointless on Facebook.

HooteSuite

Using the Twitter and Facebook client, HooteSuite, you can easily schedule Facebook updates. While free accounts cannot schedule updates in bulk, you can still schedule as many updates as you like individually. When creating a new update, click the calendar button, and you can select the exact date and time you want the update to appear, and click OK.

Updates scheduled through HooteSuite will feature a direct link to the app.

Greeting Scheduler

The Facebook app Greeting Scheduler takes a different approach to scheduling updates, that isn’t available in the other services listed here. Rather than schedule only your own Facebook status updates, it allows you to schedule updates to be posted on friend’s walls. So if you’re a forgetful person, or don’t log into Facebook on a daily basis, but don’t want to miss the opportunity to wish a friend a happy birthday, for example, this is the ideal app to use. And of course, you can also use it to schedule your own status updates.
The first step is to determine which friends’ walls you want the message posted on, or if you want to post it to your own wall. After scheduling the date and time, you can then enter the message or status update before going onto the next step.
                     schedule facebook posts
You then have the choice between entering a more elaborate message, with text formatting, or you can choose to share a link instead.

Unlike the other options listed here, when sharing a link using Greeting Scheduler, when it is posted on your profile, it will appear like other links shared through Facebook itself.

Disable Autorun and Autoplay (free Software)

Disable Autorun is a free utility which helps to selectively or completely disable all Autorun capabilities for computers that run Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Server 2003, Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Windows Server 2008 systems.

The main purpose of Autorun feature is to provide a software response to hardware actions that you start on a computer. Autorun has the following features: Double-Click, Contextual Menu, AutoPlay.
These features are typically called from removable media (flash-drives, portable drives, card readers and other gadgets). During AutoPlay, the Autorun.inf file from the media is parsed. This file specifies which commands the system runs. Many companies use this functionality to start their installers.
In versions of Windows that are earlier than Windows Vista, when media that contains an Autorun command is inserted, the system automatically executes the program without requiring user intervention. Because code may be executed without user's knowledge or consent, users may want to disable autorun feature because of security concerns.

Removable USB/thumb drives use the Autorun feature to load files when the drives are plugged into the USB port. Virus & malware exploits the Autorun feature to spread from thumb drive to PC. You can disable the autorun feature to prevent malware from spreading.
Windows 7: The new security features of Windows 7 will not run autorun programs unless it's on optical media. These commands are still available for CDs and DVDs in Windows 7, but not for USB sticks.
Disable Autorun is a totally portable application, meaning that you can put it on any USB stick and run it directly from there.

Create Password Protected Short URL’s

Let’s say you want to share a webpage that you owned with your friends, but you don’t want other people to see that page. You only want to share that URL privately with a selected group of friends on Myspace, Twitter, Facebook or any other social media sites. For example, sharing a website on Facebook might let other people to share it again with the other people using the “share” button.

When sharing a very long URL address, it might look like spamming, therefore you will need a URL shortener to help you out. Using a URL shortening service might help you to easily share the links with your friends, but most URL shortening services do not come with security feature that only allow you to share it with the people you want. There is a way of sharing URL privately where you can create a password protected short URL using Trick.ly.

3 Ways to View hidden files in Vista

Well this hacks are on the different ways you cam view the hidden files in windows vista.
There are many ways in which you can view but there are more left that’s why i have made this list just for you guys. there are many ways you can view hidden files in windows xp, so i thought it would be great to write some of them for windows vista.vista_folder_options
So here we go :-

Basic Way

To enable the viewing of hidden and protected system files in Windows Vista please follow these steps:
  1. Close all programs so that you are at your desktop.
  2. Click on the Start button. This is the small round button with the Windows flag in the lower left corner.
  3. Click on the Control Panel menu option.
  4. When the control panel opens you can either be in Classic View or Control Panel Home view:
If you are in the Classic View do the following:
    1. Double-click on the Folder Options icon.
    2. Click on the View tab.
    3. Go to step 5.

If you are in the Control Panel Home view do the following:
    1. Click on the Appearance and Personalization link.
    2. Click on Show Hidden Files or Folders.

  5. Under the Hidden files and folders section select the radio button labeled Show hidden files and folders.
  6. Remove the checkmark from the checkbox labeled Hide extensions for known file types.
  7. Remove the checkmark from the checkbox labeled Hide protected operating system files. Once this is done, your Folder Options screen should look similar to the following image. VistaShare_ShowHiddenFilesAndFolders

Regedit Magic

In Windows Vista, some files do not appear, even if the option "Show hidden files" is checked. These are "super-hidden" system files, which only appear by modifying the registry.

Showing super hidden files in Vista:
  • Start button, type regedit and then Enter.
  • Go to the registry key HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \ Explorer \ Advanced
  • In the right pane, double-click the value SuperHidden, and type the number 1. (If SuperHidden is not present, it should be established by the usual method).
  • OK and restart.

The super-hidden files are now visible in the explorer.

CMD Devil

Here's another way on how to Show Super Hidden File/Folder from Command Prompt:

1. First click on start menu then run
2. Type : cmd
push enter button
it will give you the command prompt screen
3. Go to the drive where the files is hidden. say the file is in drive d. it's a folder named data. the full path will be (d:\data\). to go to the destination drive you can use command :
drive: push then push enter,
for example, type = d: enter
4.type : attrib -h -s /s /d data
where :
* h is hidden (we use minus sign to remove it)
* s is system
* /s means process all files in the directory (recursive)
* /d means process directory/folder as well

3 Facebook Settings Every User Should Check

Unfortunately, most Facebook users likely opted for the recommended settings without really understanding what they were agreeing to. If you did so, you may now be surprised to find that you inadvertently gave Facebook the right to publicize your private information including status updates, photos, and shared links.

3 Facebook Settings Every User Should Check

1. Who Can See The Things You Share (Status Updates, Photo, Videos, etc.)

Probably the most critical of the "privacy" changes (yes, we mean those quotes sarcastically) was the change made to status updates. Although there's now a button beneath the status update field that lets you select who can view any particular update, the new Facebook default for this setting is "Everyone." And by everyone, they mean everyone.
If you accepted the new recommended settings then you voluntarily gave Facebook the right to share the information about the items you post with any user or application on the site. Depending on your search settings, you may have also given Facebook the right to share that information with search engines, too.
To change this setting back to something of a more private nature, do the following:
  1. From your Profile page, hover your mouse over the Settings menu at the top right and click "Privacy Settings" from the list that appears.
  2. Click "Profile Information" from the list of choices on the next page.
  3. Scroll down to the setting "Posts by Me." This encompasses anything you post, including status updates, links, notes, photos, and videos.
  4. Change this setting using the drop-down box on the right. We recommend the "Only Friends" setting to ensure that only those people you've specifically added as a friend on the network can see the things you post.

2. Who Can See Your Personal Info

Facebook has a section of your profile called "personal info," but it only includes your interests, activities, and favorites. Other arguably more personal information is not encompassed by the "personal info" setting on Facebook's Privacy Settings page. That other information includes things like your birthday, your religious and political views, and your relationship status.
After last month's privacy changes, Facebook set the new defaults for this other information to viewable by either "Everyone" (for family and relationships, aka relationship status) or to "Friends of Friends" (birthday, religious and political views). Depending on your own preferences, you can update each of these fields as you see fit. However, we would bet that many will want to set these to "Only Friends" as well. To do so:
  1. From your Profile page, hover your mouse over the Settings menu at the top right and click "Privacy Settings" from the list that appears.
  2. Click "Profile Information" from the list of choices on the next page.
  3. The third, fourth, and fifth item listed on this page are as follows: "birthday," "religious and political views," and "family and relationship." Locking down birthday to "Only Friends" is wise here, especially considering information such as this is often used in identity theft.
  4. Depending on your own personal preferences, you may or may not feel comfortable sharing your relationship status and religious and political views with complete strangers. And keep in mind, any setting besides "Only Friends" is just that - a stranger. While "Friends of Friends" sounds innocuous enough, it refers to everyone your friends have added as friends, a large group containing hundreds if not thousands of people you don't know. All it takes is one less-than-selective friend in your network to give an unsavory person access to this information.

3. What Google Can See - Keep Your Data Off the Search Engines

When you visit Facebook's Search Settings page, a warning message pops up. Apparently, Facebook wants to clear the air about what info is being indexed by Google. The message reads:
There have been misleading rumors recently about Facebook indexing all your information on Google. This is not true. Facebook created public search listings in 2007 to enable people to search for your name and see a link to your Facebook profile. They will still only see a basic set of information.
While that may be true to a point, the second setting listed on this Search Settings page refers to exactly what you're allowing Google to index. If the box next to "Allow" is checked, you're giving search engines the ability to access and index any information you've marked as visible by "Everyone." As you can see from the settings discussed above, if you had not made some changes to certain fields, you would be sharing quite a bit with the search engines...probably more information than you were comfortable with. To keep your data private and out of the search engines, do the following:
  1. From your Profile page, hover your mouse over the Settings menu at the top right and click "Privacy Settings" from the list that appears.
  2. Click "Search" from the list of choices on the next page.
  3. Click "Close" on the pop-up message that appears.
  4. On this page, uncheck the box labeled "Allow" next to the second setting "Public Search Results." That keeps all your publicly shared information (items set to viewable by "Everyone") out of the search engines. If you want to see what the end result looks like, click the "see preview" link in blue underneath this setting.

Share Your Email Address Safely Online

Many people post their email addresses online unaware of the fact that spammers are continously lookout for those. Spam robots keep searching websites to see if there are easily recognizable email addresses that are posted on the website, and then add it to their spam list. Most of such unprotected email addresses are posted on Contact Us forms of websites, forums, and classified sites.

Earlier I had reviewed a free service iNumbr that helps you hide your phone number in online websites and postings. Today I a free service, Scr.Im, to hide your email address from prying spammers and spam robots. Scr.Im works in a very easy to use way. Scr.Im works the same way as URL shortening service J.mp. To use it, just go to the website, and provide your email address that you want to hide. Scr.Im will give you a unique short URL for the email address that you provide. It even lets you customize the URL, based on its availability.

You can use that custom URL, and post wherever you would post your email address. Now, if someone wants to email you, they would click on that URL. This would take them to Scr.Im’s website where they will have to do a simple captcha test to prove that they are human

Once they pass the test, Scr.Im reveals your actual email address to them. This ensures that your email address is not captured by any spam robots, and remains hidden online..

Scr.Im also lets you change custom URL for your email address, change email address under your custom URL, and even complete delete the custom URL if you don’t want to use it any more.

To use Scr.Im, you do not need to download or install anything, and do not even need to create an account. It is completely free, and extremely easy to use.
